It's incredibly frustrating to watch the community blame the tiny business sector for the woes of gentrification. Gentrification is happening because City Hall sold away our anchor properties to non-profits, overspent on the Broadway School/Courthouse conversion and then doubled the taxes for the few homeowners who were left. The pandemic flipped the switch. Before we were poor, we were a community of struggling working class homeowners and before that, well we all know it wasn't always exactly like this but who cares. The point is that change happens and is happening now. It's sad (and accurate in my view) that everyone here seems to be in agreement that more growing pains are ahead of us. I just *wish* the City Govt would lead instead of watching them get dragged behind the runaway chariot once again.
