Sadly your clarity on the actual history of Newburgh is very flawed. Facts are well documented and they are readily available to research and learn at our library.

Blacks came to Newburgh by the hundreds of their own accord, originally seeking work and yes government subsidies that existed in New York and not in places like Clinton, NC … Lumberland, NC etc. where many who reside here have kin. Newburgh was always a mixed race city, but a huge influx from the south is what later defined it. Around the same time many large factories that employed unskilled and uneducated laborers moved south. That left folks with no jobs. Have you ever wondered why so many Afro-Americans here still retain southern accents, unlike other cities in the area. I agree with you on more than one point but get your facts straight first and then maybe you can be a person who can help. Stop crying over the past mistakes, they are half of the problem. Stop playing the blame game and start looking for ways to improve Newburgh. BTW your assumption I am Caucasian is racist and shallow. Everyone is getting tired of that rhetoric. What do you want?
