History Question for you all!

I'm working with an NPR reporter on a retrospective about the Battle of Newburgh , Joseph Mitchell and the welfare debate of 1961. Do any of you have any memories or family stories that relate to this topic? I see Mitchell's name come up from time to time on here so I thought I'd give it a try and ask directly. Please reach out to me if you want to be on record, or you can post your memories here if you'd rather stay anonymous.
