Jerry Goldsmith just changed the arrangements. Each season has some slight changes to it if ya listen closely! Of course the visual theme song or the "main titles" (done by Sandy Dvore) changed throughout the years as well.
Now the 3 1981-82 movies had a totally different theme song, arranged by Alexander Courage. It's a pretty tune, but not as memorable as the original.
