The mare of painted hue rose from under the tree in which she spent the night. She had never been without human supervision but this did not worry her much, for she was not alone. Her week old filly was closely by her side, making small nickering noises to her. The mares banner swung to tap the filly's hinds lightly, emitting the auroma of her heat. After the playfull antics ceased, the mare reared as high as she could, scanning the area for danger. Once satisfied, she lowered her tiara to nibble at the fresh grass. Her filly nursing contently.
