..Max watches..not moving for fear he would scare her off..he couldn't believe how close she had gotten and then just laid down..did this mare not see him?..smell him?..intrigued by the closeness of the mare and yet only being human, he wants to be closer still..rising up slowly..hand put on the ground, supporting his weight while he rose to his knees..but then as he presses harder, rising..a branch beneath his hand gives..letting out a crack..he freezes..mentally kicking himself..preparing himself for the running away of the mare..
