I think the nature of this board has always been that the discussions are hijacked. One cannot criticize a certain host without the poster being trashed and the moderator of this board being trashed for allowing it. One cannot turn the discussion to another host or hostess without that person being trashed. So, in a sense, unless a ban on a topic is enforced, the discussions are destined to take a particular turn because of the very small contingent determined to move it in that direction, with the obvious intention of shutting this board down. It is obvious where the source of the 'three v's' (vitriol, viciousness and vulgarity) is - so many of the anonymous posts use the same language and syntax that it's easy to read a single source into them. I'm always suspicious of people who try to put an end to discourse.
As far as Arbitrons go, we all know that they can all be read so that any host is the winner in some age group for some time period. As a listener, I don't really care. The Arbs are not for listeners, they're for the sponsors. I don't listen or stop listening based on someone's ratings, but a sponsor may add or remove spots because of it.
And I'm not sure what I was supposed to read into the derogatory nature of the "only popular with 65+ crowd" remarks. Let's face it, age bigotry is the dumbest form of bigotry - if bigotry does indeed have degrees - because we're ALL going to be old some day, or hope to be. It seems a silly sort of self-loathing to disparage senior citizens.
However, while Arbitrons may not be an indicator of a caller profile, most of the callers I hear to talk radio are in the middle-aged range. Many talk of their school (high school, college age) children. I have even heard kids call in on their days off. I would probably put the majority in the 35-55 range.

One of the best posts on here to date, it is so true. I agree that a small mention of a certain host being in the wrong gets out of hand because a certain someone blasts others instead of taking the comments in stride or learning from them.
I think that this board in the past has helped, to indirectly, make changes on other boards, especially regarding copy write issues and the like. However, that stuff is never mentioned, instead we are supposed to feel bad for bringing something like that up and then of course the board starts to turn nasty.
The funny thing is, I listen to Howard Stern and have for 15 years, and his ratings have only GONE UP while more and more people "dislike" him. Why, because as his movie states, the most listeners come from people "who wanted to see what he did next." Again, I mention that as long as the listeners are coming in and the ratings are getting higher why complain that a few people post negatively on here. They are obviously listeners who are "helping the ratings" go up, why should that certain host complain?

Rujane,you really hit the nail on the head! Thank-you for pointing out the "obvious"!...glad to know that some people regognise the disrupter's agenda! As far as "old-folks" listening to talk radio, ha-ha, since I know that I like TALK RADIO,and I am under 65,I guess that I just consider myself lucky to enjoy something that it took the old-timers a long time to figure-out?

I say you are the disrupters. Look at the nastiness always present here. Further, it is even nastier since Talkonline got pirated away. Now, you are have a mutuial admiration society to say iot's others doing what you all do far more and with far more intensity. You are the disrupters. You all post under phony names. And you can't stand it that the host you love to trash has more listeners than anyone else.

Well,first of all,I guess you call anything that is not bs hype about a certain host "nasty". BUT-it has been pointed out here many times that we have a right to DISPUTE and CORRECT the many falsehoods and just WRONG-NESS! That that host would be allowed to let stand,if we did not speak-up.
The opinions that you have stated,are one thing. BUT then you add that statement about "more listeners than anyone else"....c'mon-THAT IS SO FALSE! So why go there? You know it just gets everyone MAD!..........FLAME THROWERS like yourself are why this board is so DUMB!
