I am a 30 year old African-American female with a 3 year old son named Jordan. I live in Pennsylvania but I moved from NYC in January searching for a better place to raise my son. I have never smoked, done drugs and I don't drink. I started school but was unable to finish for lack of support. Jordan's father is in jail and has never given me a dime for his care, and his father's family is a horrible influence on him. I have been struggling to raise my son mostly by myself as well as dealing with problems with my son which may be autism, ADHD, etc. but I don't know and I don't have the money to take my son to a specialist. Health coverage is minimal because it is medicaid so I don't think that I am getting enough help. I am stressed out, unable to concentrate, depressed (I was on anti-depressants at one point in time but I took myself off of them to try and deal with my depression on my own). All of this started once Jordan turned a year and a half old. I find myself continually frustrated with Jordan because I don't know how to handle him and I don't want to do anything to hurt him because of my frustration. He's a good kid and very smart but he has problems and maybe a real family can help him. He loves to go to the park and he has an extreme amount of energy so he likes to run around. He loves cars and fire trucks and he likes Power Wheels. I have always wanted to buy him one but I haven't saved up the extra money. He's very affectionate, has manners and has a sharp memory and he needs a lot of love and attention. I feel that my depression is getting in the way of this. He was also also abused by his father at 2 years old. I would rather him be raised far away from his poisonous family. He deserves better that what I can give him. I don't know what else to do. This is hard for me but in the long run it will be better for him. He loves Elmo and he likes to watch Wow Wow Wubzy on Noggin. He loves to sing and pretend talk on cell phones.
