Subject: why are introverts persecuted?

In U.S. society, extroverts are rewarded, introverts are punished. Being shy is considered a serious social handicap. Why is that? If you are even "slightly" shy, you may not get jobs. If your single you won't get dates, period. I'd also like to know what right does a total stranger have, to demand that I smile at him. Or make conversation with him if I dont feel like it.
