Já, ég er kannski gegnsýrður af C hugsunarhætti. :)
Mér finnst ekkert að því að gera viðmót utan um breytur ef það setur einhver skilyrði við aðganginn en ég sé ekki tilganginn í því að fela breytu og gefa svo algjöran aðgang að henni í gegnum föll. Af svari þínu að dæmi sýnist mér þú vera vanari C++ maður en ég og mér þætti gaman ef þú gætir bent mér á lesefni sem rökstyður noktun viðmóta sem veita beinan aðgang að breytum. Ég kannast ekki við hugtakið hjúpun í þessu samhengi svo það segir mér ekki mikið.
