Date Posted: 10:20:50 12/08/05 Thu If you don't have Google Earth yet, it's a free 4mb download that lets you do amazing things with satellite photos. It's basically GIS for laypeople. For example, you can measure the distance between the UP & Beaver Island (in case you're wondering it's over 11 miles one way. The 2m resolution USGS aerials are available for many areas. You can view these images from oblique angels, overlay roads, park boundaries, etc. You can even "spin" the map to view oblique images from different angles. GET IT. I came across this "Google Earth Documentary" of the famous Shackleton voyage. F'n cool.
