Based on the history of ministry (beginning for arguments sake in The Book of Acts) two clear conclusions can be arrived at:

1-Irrespective of era, culture, or philosophy the biblical message translates into a timeless culture that has always been radically different from the surrounding cultures regardless of the era. In fact, it has often been identified because it has radically opposed the culture that it is surrounded by.

2-The gospel message and subsequently all Christian ministry is not, and was not ever intended to simply change the actions and behaviors of the individual. Rather the intent is to change the core and belief system of the individual, including their concepts and constructs. Subsequently this changes the way the individual relates to the universe around them.

Taking these two truths into consideration, there should be no real question as to whether a modern or postmodern approach /tactic is needed to reach young people. The true question is can we present the truth in an untainted, unbiased, undiluted manner.
