He kissed Lady Madeline’s hand and she blushed. Her daughter’s definition of him fit perfectly. He definitely appealed to women greatly. Paul stood up and shook his hand and smiled.
Michael proceeded to sit down. “Where is the young lady?”
Madeline happily answered. “She is in her room napping, my lord.”
Lady Adrian took his hand and explained, “Michael, you will meet her at the party on Saturday. She is a most pleasant young lady. I am sorry you could not be here to meet her earlier.”
He could sense her disappointment and quickly calmed her down. “I am sorry dear mother, but I was held up with important matters with the Penningtons.”
She quickly forgave her son. She could never stay irritated with him because he had grown into a young man and she was extremely proud of the way he represented his family.
“My boy, we were actually discussing the marital arrangements and I was reassuring Lord and Lady Wolfe how you will always protect their daughter,” Lord George urged him to join the conversation.
He got his father’s drift and looked to Lady Madeline, “Of course, she will be well protected and well taken care of. My estate at East Gate is a splendid home that I am sure will meet her approval. I am aware of your problems with Lord Bauer and I guarantee you that will not affect your daughter.”
Madeline was please to hear this from Michael, but she could tell it was well-rehearsed. She sensed he did not wish to enter this marriage on his own, but was doing it out of obligation to his family.
She smiled for her daughter’s sake. “Nikita will be very happy to hear that.”
Lady Adrian turned to her son. “Michael, I spoke with the young woman. Her virtue is intact and she understands that an heir is needed for our family, but also for her own estate purposes as well. The child will allow her estate to pass onto you. This has all worked out beautifully. Do you not agree Michael?”
Michael stared at her. Inside, he really did not care if she was a virgin or if she was going to have a child. He did not plan on spending quality time in the bedroom with a young girl of seventeen. Michael had lived his wild days and none of these English rich girls had any qualities that appealed to him. “Of course, Mother.”
Michael sat back as they discussed more of the upcoming marriage. Eventually, he would have to create a child with her, but he was not in any rush. He had been with numerous women and he found English women to have no personality. They only cared about riches and obeying their husband’s every command. His ultimate goal was to have a child with her and then let them both live at the East Gate estate. He did not plan to live there often with a snobby English wife of seventeen. If he was ever to even consider loving again, she would have to enliven his spirit.
Lady Adrian yawned. “Well if you excuse me, I must retire. Lady Madeline, please join me for tea tomorrow before the party begins. Your daughter will probably spend most of the day getting ready.”
Madeline nodded, “I would love to. Goodnight Lord George and Lady Adrian. It was a pleasure to meet you Michael.”
Michael bowed back to her and then rolled his eyes as she left. This was not going to be a fun time. He had to spend the next few weeks pretending to be excited about this ordeal.
He bid goodnight to his mother and headed up to his bedchamber. He would much rather be fencing or out traveling the countryside with Brighton. Soon enough, this will all be over and he could get back to his life.
