Terri the more diplomatic of the two women accompanying Nikita spoke up as Michael approached the confused blonde, “Your Royal Highness, Prince Michael, it is a pleasure to introduce Nikita Wirth to you Sire.”
Michael without moving and within a whisper from the woman said to Nikita, “Enchante.”
Nikita curtsied and answered in French that it was an honor to meet the Prince and thanked him for saving her. At Michael’s surprised expression because of her remark, she went on to explain that Terri and Carla told her how Michael had wagered the battles she did remember and triumphed. She went on to effusively recall the world before the terrorist attacks, she remembered the beauty, the music and the life but sadly could not recall a single soul.
Michael’s eyes softened to a silvery shade of green as he smiled and held out his hand to an obviously overwhelmed Nikita, “Tell me Nee-kee-tah, have we ever met before?”
The woman, who even in her weakened state was still remarkably beautiful curtsied again, kissed his proffered hand and gave him a tiny shy smile while answering him, “I am sorry Sire, I don’t remember.”
Michael looked around disturbed, was it that no one had explained to the woman that she was just experiencing a mental lapse; had no one told his Kita that she was the love of his life? The doctor stepped forward and interrupted as Nikita pulled her hand back from Michael, “Your Highness, Ms. Wirth is not from around here and she should not be straining to remember.”
Michael watched Nikita intently as the woman shied away from him and answered the Doctor, “I understand.”
Nikita addressed Michael with a reverence that saddened the man, she asked, “Your Royal Highness do you visit all the patients in your realm or is your visit because we knew each other previously?”
Michael stuttered, the emotions he was feeling, the incredible desire to hug her closely and tell her how much he loved her were overwhelming, but he looked at the physician who lowered his head and the Prince understood, so he answered her, “Yes, I visit all recuperating patients, Ms. Wirth.”
Nikita then addressed the physician in a very quiet tone and after nodding at Michael, said, “Doctor, do you think that you would have any inconvenience to my going home?”
The doctor stumbled for an answer, he paused and Nikita interrupted him. She said, “I understand I have no home here but the ladies were telling me that this is now the seat of civilization and I guess I must live here somewhere,” she looked at Michael and smiled.
“Nee-kee-tah,” the Prince spoke to her, green eyes gazing into blue ones, he added, “You could come live in the castle and work with me, I need help especially from people who speak more than one language.”
The woman looked at those there gathered and bowed again, “Sir I am honored with your offer and would be delighted to help you wherever I can, but I would prefer to find a place to live among the regular folk.”
Michael wore a wounded expression and Nikita said quickly, “Oh Sire, I didn’t mean to upset you…”
Walter who had been quiet intervened saying, “Hi Sugar, I am Sir Walter, but call me Walter… ‘Anywho’, I understand your need and have the perfect place for you to live.”
Nikita smiled at the likeable old man and cocked her head at the Prince who was still exchanging glances with the pretty woman. Michael spoke to the older man, his eyes glued to Nikita, “Walter please take care of Nikita’s housing needs, that is if the Doctor thinks there are no health concerns that would prevent her from leaving the hospital. Then if possible, all of you go enjoy the festivities; the dome is finally up. I’ll see you Monday in my office Nee-kee-tah.”
Prince Michael left the room with all the pomp and circumstance that befitted his title and left the beautiful Nikita totally enchanted with the handsome monarch. Of course the entire scenario that had just occurred was planned and clearly spelled out way before Nikita regained her consciousness. She was going to love the little cottage that sat perfectly across the courtyard from Michael’s private residency in the castle. As bad as things were, Michael was sure they were about to get much better.
