Hey Susan (whack) great idea =~)
Looks like we're finding more of our own arm whacks rather than Robert's!

Elizabeth, I guess I've just been paying such close attention to arm-whacks now, I'm picking up Bob's mannerisms! It can be like our special Robert Newton Fan Club Handshake or something. Know what I mean? [whack] ;-)

And yeah, Sue, this has given me a good excuse to watch some episodes of the series again. Actually, I think we're 5 for 5 now; I spotted two more last night: In "Sword of Vengeance," he whacks Patch about 5 1/2 minutes in, just as they're about to board the "ghost" ship; he says, "An' if there be any treasure aboard, 'tis for dividin' equal. [whack] Patch, you an' Fenner come with me, we'll search the cabin. And look lively now." Then in "Turnabout," Jim gets a double arm-whack at about 8 1/2 minutes when he protests to "Captain" Leon, "I'd feed you slop!" And Leon gets a whack in the chest at about 18 1/2 minutes when Long John unties him from the mast and tells him he's to be the new cook. (And so far, I've also noticed that he always uses his right hand.)

(This is almost too easy; looking for arm-whacks in the LJS series is like shooting fish in a barrel ... almost as easy as trying catch him saying "Arr" in "Blackbeard the Pirate"!)

BTW, here's something else interesting I noticed in "Turnabout": it's one of the few episodes (if not the only one) that still has Captain Flint (the parrot)!

Susan & Elizabeth, you ladies are too much! Now you've got me looking for arm whacks, too! ;-)
I was watching Oliver Twist last night and found something interesting. In the scene where Nancy finds Oliver out in the street on his way to return some books, Kay Walsh (Nancy) gives Bob an arm whack! I laughed out loud!
Sikes: "What's this? He's been stealing again!" (Bill hits Oliver upside the head)
Nancy: "Oh no, Bill!" (whack!!)
Another interesting thing, Bob doesn't really do the arm whack thing in this picture. Rather, he seems to prefer elbow jabs. It's a more crude gesture, in keeping with Sikes' character, I suppose. In his fantastic entrance scene in Fagin's hideaway when he tries to get the Artful Dodger or Charlie to go to the police court, Sikes jabs each of them when he speaks to them. Also in the Three Cripples Tavern, he jabs Fagin after they plan the robbery.
This is great fun! Can't wait to see Obsession...I'm gonna order a copy.

I noticed a whack in the LJS series 'The Pink Pearl'. He whacks Jim in the cabin when they are planning to go ashore. I guess it's at least halfway through the episode and it's a very light, I think it was, two whacks. And he does elbow quite a bit too. I saw some of it in 'The Eviction'(someone had mentioned him using the elbow tap too). So we have 'arm whacks' and 'elbow taps' to collect.

I'll be looking for more.
