Elizabeth, I guess I've just been paying such close attention to arm-whacks now, I'm picking up Bob's mannerisms! It can be like our special Robert Newton Fan Club Handshake or something. Know what I mean? [whack] ;-)
And yeah, Sue, this has given me a good excuse to watch some episodes of the series again. Actually, I think we're 5 for 5 now; I spotted two more last night: In "Sword of Vengeance," he whacks Patch about 5 1/2 minutes in, just as they're about to board the "ghost" ship; he says, "An' if there be any treasure aboard, 'tis for dividin' equal. [whack] Patch, you an' Fenner come with me, we'll search the cabin. And look lively now." Then in "Turnabout," Jim gets a double arm-whack at about 8 1/2 minutes when he protests to "Captain" Leon, "I'd feed you slop!" And Leon gets a whack in the chest at about 18 1/2 minutes when Long John unties him from the mast and tells him he's to be the new cook. (And so far, I've also noticed that he always uses his right hand.)
(This is almost too easy; looking for arm-whacks in the LJS series is like shooting fish in a barrel ... almost as easy as trying catch him saying "Arr" in "Blackbeard the Pirate"!)
BTW, here's something else interesting I noticed in "Turnabout": it's one of the few episodes (if not the only one) that still has Captain Flint (the parrot)!
