In reply to: Susan 's message, "Arm-whack sightings" on 18:28:21 08/23/07 Thu

I just spotted a few minor ones in "Soldiers Three" ... About 42 minutes into the movie, when Bob and Cyril are sitting outside eating together and Stewart Granger makes a snarky remark to them, then goes into the officers' tent, Bob says, "'Ere [whack], did you notice when Ackroyd was smellin', 'e looked like a skunk?" (To which Cyril responds, "When he was smellin', he smelt like a skunk.")

Also, in the "moo"-ing scene, Bob gives Cyril a teeny little elbow jab.

Then, at just about 1:00, after they return to camp with the guns, Stewart comes over to talk to Bob and Cyril, saying he might have some news for them (just before Sgt. Murphy goes by and comments, "Getting pretty friendly with the ranks these days"), and Bob gives Cyril a little left-handed whack.

At about 1:11, Bob gives Cyril another little one when they're in the fortress playing cards (or, technically, counting to make sure they've got all of them back). Surprisingly, though, considering how chummy they are in the movie, those were the only ones I could find. (On the other hand, half the time they look like they're just too close together, practically snuggling with each other--aww--to get in any really classic whacks.)

BTW, no arm whacks at all in "Odd Man Out," but I see what you mean about Lukey roughing up poor little Shel! I guess we have to stick with the light-hearted flicks if we're looking for those friendly mannerisms.

Remember that Shell got even with Lukey in the bar. Do you remember that scene??? He apparently gave Lukey a ,not so friendly, 'whack' in a non-mentionable part of the anatomy (I'm trying to keep this clean). It was 'poor Lukey' that time!
