Greetings. When I was growing up in South Jersey my sister and I loved watching Robert Newton in Hatter's Castle on TV. I have not seen the film in years and years nor am I able to obtain a copy on video. My question is, does anyone know a video source where I can obtain a much coveted copy of Hatter's castle?

Thanks
Wendy

Hatter's Castle is such a great movie--so many times I've asked myself WHY it is never shown on TV. Maybe we should bombard American Movie Classics with requests.
"It's a beautiful night for a stroll!" That man is unforgettable.

You're so right ... I haven't seen that movie in over twenty years, but the one thing I remember from it is Robert Newton's amazing performance, one of his best! I've been longing to see it again; it's one of the few I never got on tape back when it was still being shown. I wonder why they stopped. Yes, let's write to AMC! There's also Turner Classic Movies.

In the meantime, would it help to reminisce with this photo from the film? I took it off the TV screen with my Kodak instant camera (which, in itself, tells you how long ago that was!):

Does anyone know where to get a Hatter's Castle videotape? I looked for all over the Internet and couldn't find. If someone knows where to find a copy please e-mail me. Thank you!

Hello.
I'm not sure if you are still loking for the movie, but I did find a website called http://www.rarevhs.com/indexc.html where you can type in your requested video and you can place an order for the movie. Or, to officially find out if they do, you can c all them at 1 800 788-4493 and ask them for the movie. I don't know if you have tried that already, and if you even still searching for the movie by now, but that is just a suggestion.
Hope it helps

Caught "Jamaica Inn" on TV and immediately recognized the star from a movie I'd seen as a child about a "mad hatter." Learned his name, Robert Newton and after searching Newton on the Web I learned the name of the memorable film is "Hatter's Castle." Wendy, I'm sure you must have been watching "The Million Dolllar" movie which used to air great classics for free which we must now pay for on AMC. (Although, in my opinion, AMC's offerings are very limited.) I'll gladly join your movement to get "Hatter's Castle" aired on AMC. What a treat! What a performance by Newton!

I have been trying to locate information about Robert Newton because I also want to see the film Hatters Castle.
It was brilliant and brings back memories of a happy childhood fed on a diet of quality films.

That's one movie I unfortunately never got on tape back when they were still showing it on television (unless, by some miracle, it's on one of the unlabelled Beta tapes I'm still going through!). I'm still holding out hope that AMC or TCM will air it again one of these days. Don't forget to fill out that request form! Maybe if enough of us request it, they'll listen, assuming they have it.

I was born and brought up in Dumbarton, Scotland, the birthhplace of the author of Hatter's Castle (AJ Cronin)and also the town where the novel was based.
I have read the book at least 20 times and the film starring Robert Newton bears no resemblence whatsoever to this marvellous book. Instead of demanding re-runs of an excrutiating ego trip for the actor and director - READ THE BOOK - it is much more rewarding
