Dear Friends,
I feel I owe an explanation as to why I will not be coming over for Rich Mountain when, earlier, it was my clear intention to do so. Even though I can take as much vacation time as I wish the periods available this year are rather restricted. The only two weeks available in the summer are the last two weeks in July, the start of which coincides with the Rich Mountain event. My wife booked a vacation for this period and, whereas I would cheerfully charge the Yankee works at Franklin on my own (well perhaps with General Pat along for company and so as I can look after him) I'm not brave enough to interfere with this arrangement!!!!
I've been in touch with Doug re. Perryville in the Fall and will certainly come over for that IF there is an authentic group to fall in with. I'm told the event is somewhat mainstream but frankly we have such a dearth of large events over here that the mainstream stuff I can simply regard as background wallpaper (necessary for critical mass but not to be focused on) I think I may be able to persuade a few LJs to join me.
Otherwise we are counting the months, days, hours, minutes and seconds 'til RR 111. At the recent LJ AGM I impressed on the Boys that this will be one event no-one should even contemplate missing and advised them to start saving their pennies now!!!!
If anyone is also contemplating Perryville please let me know as it would be of great comfort to know that we'd encounter a friendly face or two.
Warm regards to all,
The Old Major
