Subject: Bring your shelter tents

Boys I think there may have been more of these than we imagine. Granted this passage is a few months after Franklin, but note Lt Collins (Co B, 15th Texas Dismounted Cav) use of the term "dog tent."

"On the morning of April 15th (1865) we camped on a nice piece of woodland...cleared off the grounds nicely and stretched our dog tents as if we were going to rest quite awhile."

this is outside Greensboro, NC 2 weeks before the surrender but these men at the very end had shelter tents...and like most of us, sound like they would put them up for a stop of a few days, but would just wrap up if on the move.

Danny - you need to get this book - will copy some passages. From "Unwritten History of the War Between the States" by Robert Collins (Co B, 15th Texas Cav).

Doug
