Subject: Ringside view at Franklin

From one of our own in the RRB forced to watch from the crowd due to an injury - this is what he saw Sunday at Nashville:

hello men of the 9th,

i wanted to post a message on the board and let you all know how good you all looked at franklin on sunday. thanks to the hole i stepped in on saturday, i was knocked out of the action for sunday. after seeing what i saw, i think i'm glad i had to sit out.

i was on the side lines, parallel to the trenches, not forty yards from where the rrb ended up. this was kinda exciting since i have never watched an event before. the way ya'll double quicked up the ridge was so awesome. i started yelling to everybody, "oh hell, the yanks are in trouble now cuz here come the texas boys." i wish ya'll coulda heard the crowd cheering for you. i started a righty might frenzy in the crowd.

i have always heard of people saying how good we look, or how we look like real soldiers and what not. sometimes i wondered if they crowd said that to all reenactors. well since i was watching this time i can truley say the rrb is the best drilled and best fighting unit i have ever seen. i mean that siincerely, since i have fought with some eastern units as well.

you guys made my blood get up iin a hurry and i just wanted to run out onto the field and jump into the action. take pride men because each and eveyone of you, from general griffin, all the way down to us grunts, you all are a class act. in my mind the rrb is the reason people want to get into the hobby. trust me, i saw plenty of the other units that looked like chickens with no heads.

i almost forgot, when the rrb got surrounded and shot all to pieces, there was not a dry eye in my section, myself included. one lady wept openly, which made it worse for everybody else.

anyhow, i just wanted to congratulate everybody for a job well done.

Indeed - that was of course closest to the crowd. Hope they got their money's worth - I sure did.

Doug
