I honestly truly believe that instrument repair should be a class mandatory for all music ed students to take. I think band directors should know how to fix minor problems that would happen on a daily basis. They should know how to unstick a tuning slide or replace a cork or pad. Definitely not for permanant, but a professional isn't always there to save the day!

I agree with most of the people here. A band director needs to be able to care for the band's tools. Imagine what would happen if a valve on a trumpet suddenly stuck on the first day of band camp. Bigger problems, such as a stepped on flute or sax that got mangled, would be better left in the hands of someone who specializes in instrument repair.
