James, we are all impressed to hear the Miserable Old Buggers team have been out testing already. Even if you couldn't find any piste in Sussex.

Just to clarify (really for anyone reading this who may be considering entering their sportscar) the Atlas-Sahara 2004 is not a desert raid, it is a tour of Morocco on ordinary roads. Yes, there will be a few link sections of piste, but only routes as used by road cars in Morocco. Even the route to Erg Chebbi and the overnight at the Merzouga Oasis now has a strip of tarmac to it. While we are on the subject of our nights in nomad tents. We have arranged with our friend Omar, who lives on the edge of the desert, for drinks to be available at the evening meals (cooked on open fires), together with traditional Berber song and dance.

Those who have competed in Guild of Motor Endurance events in the past (most of the entry to date) know what to expect, and that a great deal of coping with endurance comes from within. But few, maybe not even those that competed in ’97 to Agadir, will comprehend the enormity of the challenge of ‘the crossing of southern Morocco’.
