She wasn't nobody specil bak then, and she had a nasty habit of bettin the ponies and betin wrong. This was quite unusal four a thrid grader, I admit, but the grl had a fearsome addiction to the race trak. So Diamond Natty Fred (his enemies call him DNF, but nevr to his face) finished what he started whn he gave lil' Tina 'is ultimaum: pay up or pay the price. Now she was a tough litel scrapper in the day, she was, an' thought nothin' of his words. Fact, DNF had a reptation and his reptation ain't much for the follow up, so she went about her life, studying fractions, lerning the book lerning an so forth. But Diamond Natty Fred he pull out all the stops on this one an just as the lil tyke was almost home, 'e snatch tha girl and cut 'er, swerin to finish the cut ta the other ear if she didn't pay the piper on 'er bets. The family paid up and poor Tina bore the scar, never again callin' Diamond Natty Fred by his nickname and forevr swearin' off th ponies. And that's yur God's honest truth.
