Hi, Extraordinary Storytellers...

I'm posting this on the forum instead of email, in case anyone wants to respond, where we all can read it. That's easier to do on this forum than over email.

I think we all agree, our first E.S. retreat was extraordinary. It surely surpassed all my expectations. Sharing was difficult for some, but it was wonderful. For some mysterious reason, publicly telling about trouble helps us heal. We never completely "get over it," but gradually we get past it, take ahold of it and get control of it, instead of being shackled by it. When others hear us and then tell us they were helped...well, that's medicine unlike anything else!

In my initial talk to the group, I shared how no more than 50% of our talks should focus on how bad things used to be, and at least 50% should be about how great God is. Some of us struggled with that ratio. It's always easier to dwell on the defeat than the victory, especially if we're still struggling with the past. However, don't be discouraged. Jesus had to touch a blind man twice before he saw clearly. We're all miracles in the making. I think we understood that our talks at Butman were not nearly in their finished forms. The more we give them, the more we will get past the trouble and be amazed at the healing...and devote more to the second half, the victory part. So, every time we give a talk, afterwards we should evaluate it and then re-write it, making it better, more focused, more articulate, and more emphasizing the victory part.

Now, I need a photo from everyone, and a short paragraph about the topic you address, and what kind of group(s) you want to speak to. A couple of you have sent those, but everybody else needs to. As soon as I get them all I'll print up a small brochure to go on my literature table, send out in JWA mailouts, etc. So, please put that on your priority list and send those to me as soon as possible.

Feel free to contribute to this forum, and to discuss our retreat, or anything else, for that matter! We need to keep in communication.

Amazing Love!

tom
