>Cody,

James Lane received a First Class Grant about 2 Mar 1836. Positive location has been established in the name of James Lane. Land Grant #16 was issued to him by the Republick of TX. The land is located just north of Waco airport, in McLennan County, TX. The tiny town of Valley View is now located upon it.

James Lane died in 1847, and his wife, Mary, died in 1851, possibly in Robertson County, TX. Apparently, James had no will. Mary Lanes's will was not probated until 1879. Each child received 1/6 of the land, in value, the sizes varied slightly. Each piece had river frontage and was about 5.7 miles long by about 1/4 mile wide.

The river, the Brazos?

My gr gr grandmother, Martha Lane Sheek, was one of the six children. She died in 1871; therefore, her husband, John Wesley Sheek, inherited her share for their four children. Later he did trade the land for cattle.

Might you know how and where I could find out more about this family and this property, then and now.

Thank you very much if you have time to reply.

Sincerely,

Charla
