Pards,

Here is a little happy reading for your pleasure. Doug Cooper has now gone well above and beyond all of our wildest dreams. we all owe if a great dept of gratitude.

Thanks Doug, we all appreciate it.

Boys the conference call today was amazing - we are part of something much bigger than us, yet we are in some ways the most visible part of the grass roots and national effort to save this battlefield. I was on with Jim Campi of CWPT, Gary Joiner, Tulane U Law Center, State and local media reps, an Environmental group, Steve Bounds at the park, and several others.

The ball is rolling now, and Jim asked if we could be part of a Thursday April 1 2:00 PM press conference and perhaps even have some filming of a firing demonstration by infantry and artillery. I told him I would try to get as many of us (only the 15th TX and other authentic units) there as possible but that it would be tough. HE WANTS us to be part of this - Jim is sharp and understands how to leverage our commitment. The goal is to make sure the print and TV media have it on their Friday shows. If we wait to have the News Conference on Friday, it will be too late for Friday news and fewer people will read about it and fewer will show up at the event. Additionally, there is another press conference scheduled for the State House Steps in Baton Rouge Thursday morning.

The whole idea is to hit with both barrels in one day and really make an impression as a kickoff to the weekend's events. There will also be a professional film crew ready to film the event - the same folks that put together the excellent "History of Louisiana" and other PBS specials. They will probably not march with us of course but may catch the beginning, end and maybe the end of the first day - details can be worked out later. They are superb.

How many of you can be there (Mansfield) Thursday afternoon? I will be there for sure, and Frank and Danny, your participation would be most valuable at a minimum but it would be important to have as many more including OX as Sgt Major. One of the Lazy Jacks like KC would be fabulous...an historian from England coming all that way.

As for the firing demos, it would follow the press conference and just flow into the demo. A gun crew and maybe a squad of infantry would be ideal. Yankees and rebs would be event better if we could get some of the Zouaves from the RRB there. Steve Bounds at the park will help and we can sleep in the cabins Thursday night or pony up together for a hotel room. Jim Campi said they would shower us with free CWPT stuff for our efforts - I may ask for monetary compensation in the form of meals or lodging, but doubt that will happen as we are all volunteers

Thoughts?

Doug
