Y'all,
We cannot stress this enough, please don't pack for the typical event. We will NOT be returning to the same campsite twice. We will NOT be lounging around and trying to ward off the boredom. We will NOT only have to carry this gear from the car to our camp. You WILL be 'in harness' from the time we get up in the morning until we stop for the night. Danny and company are working thier tails off to give us the most realistic expierience possible. There will be unexpected things happening along the march route just as they did to the original 15th. We will be attacking an enemy position, uphill, then marching 16 miles over the next day and attacking again that afternoon. We will do all of this with what you decide to carry with you. Please make sure you NEED the item before you pack it. And, as always, start walking now. Put on your brogans and start getting used to them. No matter how 'hardcore' you think you are, you will need to prepare for this event. 1st sgt. Thompson, 2nd Sgt. Schlagetter, Capt. Johns, Cpl's Geoff and Charlie Lehman and myself all made the Port Gibson march. We can all attest to seeing the most 'hardkewl' and fit looking guys in the companies ahead of us dropping like flies from blisters and heat prostration. We all made it because we planned ahead. I want to see this company hit the field at Pleasant Hill on Sunday at full strength. Start walking and drinking water now, and I'll see you all there.
'Nuff preachin' for now boys, I'll crawl off my soapbox.
Regards,
Stephen Mitchell
