Subject: Inspection Process (Please Read!!)

Here's what's going to happen as far as registration and inspection at the event.

Everyone should be parking at Pleasant Hill, so you can get your car after the event without having to walk 15 miles for it. Registration for that event has always been at the dogtrot cabin original to the battlefield just inside the front gate. Sign up there, and I'll have them direct you to where I'll be set up nearby. I plan on being fairly close. Gary White will be assisting me with the inspections. We will ask you to unpack pretty much everything before we look at it. This means you'll have to undo your bedroll or knapsack, and show us that what you brought fits the guidelines. If you require modern medicine or something else vital to your existence, you will most certainly be allowed to carry it, but please show me so there won't be surprises. We're trying to maintain first person for the duration of the event.

Hopefully, everyone's kit will conform to the guidelines. They were designed to be easily attainable to those of us who take this stuff seriously. If Gary or I find something that doesn't fit the guidelines, we will either ask you to put it back in your car, or replace it with something that is in the guidelines. For safety reasons, we will not allow participants to march without canteens, blankets or some form of outer garment. After sweating all day marching in the heat, you will be nice and damp for the cold NW Louisiana evenings. Everyone should have at least an overshirt.

When you pass inspection, I will sign a pass for you to present to your company commander or 1st sgt, depending on your captain's preference. This will be your proof that you have been inspected and meet the guidelines.

At this point, you will be directed to a shuttle (pickup truck) that will carry you to Mansfield. Our campsite is already set, and I imagine you'll form up with your company at this time.

If this seems long and complicated, just remember that all you have to do is show up at Pleasant Hill, get signed off for inspection, and take a ride down to Mansfield, where you'll meet up with the guys you'll be spending the rest of the weekend with.
