Marnie stops her movements as he puts his hand around hers, almost stopping her breathing, then regaining her composure as he lets his hand fall away. "I know," she said softly, leaning closer. All she wanted to do . . . but she wouldn't . . . no she wouldn't . . . she begins tracing patterns over the acorn with her nails, ever so slowly, trying to decide whether she was going to tell him how she felt or not. If only . . . but if onlys were useless wastes of time. So therefore she just sat and pondered . . .
