Hi!

I just noticed that you responded to Marcia's thread on the middle school...so I think you're at Kingswood.

Our highschool (lead at the time by Paul MacMillan - I have his daughter in class now) was on pure blocks for about 3 years (I think, maybe 4). The "data" showed that our frosh and sophs were doing WORSE on the block while the upper classmen were doing better. At that point, we moved to a 60/90 model. Frosh and soph had mostly 60 minute classes (6 per day) and jr and sr had mostly 90 min classes (4 per day). That's basically where we are now.

I really enjoyed block at all levels. As a friend says, though, no matter what schedule you're on, if you're a good/decent teacher, you'll just go in and teach. I liked the low-stress factor that came with blocks, teaching only 3 classes per day per semester, and having enough time in a period to do a writing, reading, listening and speaking activity and a game.

Jocelyn :)
