Miss Teen returns with 3 top awards
Miss Teen CNMI Remylyn Julene Guerrero arrived on Saipan Tuesday night with three trophies in tow from the 2003 Miss Antilles International Beauty Pageant, where she wowed the board of judges with her beauty, wit, and posture.

Guerrero was surprised by Miss Teen CNMI members and officers, close relatives, and friends, who all trooped to the Saipan International Airport around 7:30pm to welcome her back from her competition in Venezuela last week.

"I am so happy to return with these awards and [having had the chance to] represent the CNMI in the Miss Antilles pageant. I am so proud to bring back something for the CNMI," Guerrero said during an interview.

According to the 2003 Miss Teen and now second runner-up to the 2003 Miss Antilles beauty pageant, she was shocked when she first got the award for the National Costume, where she bested 17 other candidates from bigger countries like Cambodia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Peru, and others.

"I was not really hoping to win the national costume award because all of them had beautiful costumes and when they called my name, I was like, 'Oh my!' I could not believe it and I was so happy," Guerrero narrated.

The reigning Miss Teen is the first CNMI beauty titlist to return to the CNMI with three top awards from a prestigious pageant organization. This is also the first time that the Northern Marianas sent a candidate to the Miss Antilles International pageant.

Asked whether her victory would pressure 2003 Miss CNMI-Universe Kimberly Reyes and Miss CNMI Pacific Olivia Tebuteb to bring back something for the CNMI, Guerrero said: "Pressure is not the word. They should just push themselves to do their best."

Both Reyes and Tebuteb are competing in their respective pageants in the next few weeks.

"They should just do their best and be themselves. Be confident that they are doing their best," said the 17-year-old titleholder. Besides the national costume award, Guerrero also bagged the long gown award during the competition that was held Oct. 18 at the Rio Chico� Ateneo-Paez Municipality, Miranda State, Venezuela.

The 2003 Miss Antilles is Maria Gonzales from Cambodia, while first runner up is Miss Dominican Republic.

Guerrero arrived Tuesday night with Miss Teen CNMI president Noby Crisostomo, Ping Deleon Guerrero, her mother Janet, and her two sisters.

Over 20 candidates from Venezuela, Panama, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Costa Rico, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and others joined the pageant.

Candidates in the Miss Antilles International Beauty Pageant were judged based on personality, culture fluency and accuracy, physical condition and poise, elegance, design relevance, and originality.

The pageant, which was first held in 1990, is aimed at promoting the host country and to raise funds for charity works.
