Subject: Road Rage etc

I witnessed the blue Megane driven aggressively by a gigantic driver and also a silver Discovery driven by what appeared to be an incompetent driver who stalled it 3 times on the brdge at the foot of HardKnott. I wonder if a lot of the traffic congestion we witnessed was caused by cars following the event and the clash with people going to the fell race. If every rider had a support vehicle then there would be pandemonium> I suppose riders going for a win could justify a following vehicle but the rest of us shouldn't need such support; in my case it was a 3 Turkish Delight, 2 slices of malt loaf and a 1 litre of fluid ride - easily carried by a rider. I think the use of support vehicles should be discouraged. As the law stands we have to share the roads with cars and I don't see there is much to be gained by deliberately or thoughtlessly antagonising car drivers, they are after all piloting up to 2 tons of steel and can cause us serious injury. At least some of the drivers last Sunday appreciated my signal to call them through when I could see the way was clear before they did, but others were most ungrateful.
But for all of these minor irritations it was another superb Fred Whitton, my fifth & my fastest; many thanks to Lakes Road Club & Lofty.
