Depending on how much work you're willing to do, I'd at least add about a foot of mulch around the base of your plants. That could be leaves, pine needles, or anything else to keep the ground from freezing. The banana leaves will die with the first frost, but that's okay. Depending on the severity of the winter, and the type they are, some trunks will die back to the ground, some will stay solid. All should come back in the spring. Some people build a cage around the trunks, fill it with leaves or pine needles, and even cover that with plastic to keep it from getting overly wet during the winter. That will give it a head start in the spring, and a better chance to produce bananas later next year. Best of luck on your nannas.
