Yes, Carlos Hathcock, AKA white feather, AKA Lang Trang (sp) was the storied first sniper to use the .50 caliber as a sniper rifle for the US armed forces. He was the man. But he did it in Vietnam. He usually used a regular Winchester 30.06 but is credited as the first to mount a scope on the M2. He went on to assist in the establishment of the Marine Scout and Sniper school in VA.

I'll stop now, if anyone wants more, google it or look it up on Wiki. Wiki has a pretty good bio on him.
He's a hero of mine.
