A better class of men 64 going on 12

When he was twelve I had to resist the temptation to go a couple rounds with his father. Twelve years old and already a loss of innocence: peer pressure in elementary school. Now they put the junior high school kids in high school. Before I had ever seen porn. My sexual speculations were so unimaginative. But I had to cut the guy some slack. Seeing how he had that brain tumor

All this because the word transcends, oh is this all there is?

Oh yes I believe in experience, but what have I just experienced? Room for error there: phenomenological speaking. I have no idea what an empiricist is

Speculation:
2. Very excellent; superior or supreme in excellence; surpassing others; as, transcendent worth; transcendent valor. "Clothed with transcendent brightness." Milton.
2. (Kantian Philos.) Transcending, or reaching beyond, the limits of human knowledge; -- applied to affirmations and speculations concerning what lies beyond the reach of the human intellect.

Now I can see very excellent but reaching beyond the limits of human knowledge if that includes speculations about what lies beyond the reach of my intellect. I got to take a pass on Kantian transcending. Duh me.

I like this bit on speculation by a writer of speculative fiction.

So one problem with speculation is that it piggybacks on the Gell-Mann effect of unwarranted credibility, making the speculation look more useful than it is.

Another issue concerns the sheer volume of speculation. Sheer volume comes to imply a value which is specious. I call this the There-Must-Be-A-Pony effect, from the old joke in which a kid comes down Christmas morning, finds the room filled with horseshit, and claps his hands with delight. His astonished parents ask: why are you so happy? He says, with this much horseshit, there must be a pony.
