I don't think it's a threat to anything, except possibly the long term health of those that smoke it habitually. My ex did extensive studies on marijuana smoking vs. cigarette smoking when he was getting his Ph.D. I think he did come to the conclusion that the long-term effects of heavy pot smoking were worse than cigarette smoking (but who smokes THAT much pot?). I'll have to check. It's been years since I've looked at any of his papers.

I've heard some powerful arguments that not only marijuana but all mind-altering drugs should be legal. I haven't quite made up my mind on the subject, but certainly I think that the whole brouhaha over pot is totally ridiculous. Eventually it probably will be legalized. Let's just hope that is sooner rather than later.

Probably the "civil dis" connection with pot-smoking is just a rationalization, as you said.
