Her eyes found Damuthca and she closed them, slowly letting them open with a soft sigh. An ace finally played, though the game had become slightly different now. In a world of death, she sat watching vivid red dance around another love's form. Garric, then Jin, now Damuthca. Thoughts like that did no good, betraying too many emotions that could cause her harm. Two Escalvone left in this world and ironically she was one of them. Damuthca would smile, that little twitch at the corner of his mouth that tried to hide it. Each Lord had chosen, understanding what would happen if they were to stay. They had done so proudly.

Escalvone would never surrender. And they would never forsake their clan.

All others went on orders or with persuasion, not an unwilling soul in all of Clan Escalvone as it was broken and scattered to the winds. They were begining to understand now, seeing what she had seen upon waking and finding herself in a bed of morning glory once she had been banished. A tangled, spread web is much more difficult to kill than a single root and produces the same beautiful flowers only in more abundance. Lessons learned the hard way. Lots of them.

Tyrsis very gently took Damuthca's hand, bending to kiss his forehead once before whispering the word that fate declared she would whisper. Regret touched her voice, carried by the empty halls formerly known as Escalvone. The temple was burning, green fire slowly waltzing across a broken and empty city and tearing its final remnants to dust, too long burning now to save anything but ruins. "Yes."

Sometimes we are too blind to see.
