Subject: Myths about copyright

I think that there is a need for copyright laws. The problem has come with how they are implemented and how they are used. It’s important to remember that a lot of artists in the recording industry have lost exclusive rights to their products. The Myths article does a pretty good job of addressing some of problems. As for people who have created with out compensation there are many. The Linux operating system is a good example. This open operating system is free and can be improved upon.
There is a high opportunity cost that no one can see which goes with the implementation of inflexible long term copyrights. Technology is hindered because creatively springs from improving on the ideas of others. The extension of Copyright protection is a good example of abuse of the concept of copyright.
