As far as advantages to informating, I can only think of things like error reports that are sent when something on your computer doesn't work right and possibly the ability to have quality control checks on certain services.

Disadvantages come a little easier. I feel like some things that informate these days go a little too far into people's personal lives. I personally feel like privacy issues should be a major concern in the new wave of informating technology.
