Komusta kayo. Sapay koma ta nasiyaat latta iti biag dita ayan yo a disso iti lubong. Many of us who have gone abroad or have moved to other places in the Philippines are probably homesick and eager to know what is happening in our town and to our friends and relatives in Tagudin and elsewhere so for this in mind, I've created this message board for I thought that this would be a great medium in bringing us together and in getting us reacquainted and closer to our hometown of Tagudin. Please make yourself at home here in this message board. Our fellow Tagudinians would be delighted to hear from you through your postings. Take good care.

  - Mang Alos you got it right. Is it in del Pilar or Malacanang? Anyway this is the Tagudin Elementary School ( Central). I think it used to be a high school in the old days but I am not sure. Does anybody know the history of the school? The late Mrs. Elsie Valdez (Batch Valdez mother & the wife of the late Fiscal Valdez) was a principal here for a long time until she was transferred to TGCHS. - This is the Tagudin Central Elementary School popularly known as Gabaldon at Del Pilar District where Board Member Pepito Bunoan & Ex Vice Mayor Rogelio Lorenzana resides. The principals who served here were the late Mr Custodio, father of Mr Ed Custodio, the late Mrs Elsie Valdez & the late Mr Mariano Valencia. My teachers were Ms Magdalena Valencia (grade 1),; Mrs Isidra Acosta ( grade 2); Mrs. Concepcion Bunoan (grade 3); Ms Adeliada Orallo (grade 4); Mr. Mariano Valencia Math and Music teacher (grade 5 & 6 ); Mrs. Rachel Ramirez, Miss Pulanco, Mr Valeroso, Mrs. Lucia Dauz and Mrs Elsie Valdez were the teachers for grade 5 & 6 . Gorgeous beaches lined w/ tall coconut trees, serene rivers blanketed by hordes of waterlilies beneath w/c congregate swarms of fish, rowdy but festive class/school picnics, eventful reunions along sandy beaches & sumptuous meals underneath nipa-hut shelters- they strum chords of sleep-inducing lullabies. Negative comments about Tagudin Seaside Message Board -- Liz, 12/29/04 5:07pm [23]
I was going through the new messages at the municipality of Tagudin Guest Book, and I came across a message from "Tagudin" dated the 28th. He/She said this messageboard (Tagudin Seaside) is mainly used by agkakabagyan (relatives).

In fairness, I don't think this is the case at all. And I'm sure a lot of us who post on this board feel the same way. When it comes to contacting long-lost friends and acquaintances (and relatives!), this board has been, and continue to be a trusted medium.

RCLL (message dated 12/29) did come to this message board's defense and had some good things to say. He did a little chiding on the side by saying 'narigat no puro tayo negatibo'.

He did say something about some of the messages being too personalized (did he mean personal?) and bastos.
I say - Take it with a grain of salt and move on.

By observation, we, Tagudinians are a hard-working group, but when we play and joke around, we REALLY do it to the extreme. The jokes and messages being passed back and forth on the board are all normal, as far as I'm concerned, among FRIENDS. It might be a little vulgar (ok, a lot!), to the uncommon reader, but if you were a real Tagudinian, you would know there is truth to what I just said. It can get worse!

But when all is said and done, it all boils down to our Tagudinian ways - the humor,the quirks and practices that continually prove to help in our everyday survival, wherever part of the globe we might be at the moment.

Mr. Moderator, all the sweat and sleepless nights you put in on this message board, believe me, they are all recognized and greatly appreciated.

- Thank you Liz. I am not surprised I know it�s going to happen sooner or later that there would be negative comments circulating out there about this site. With the Internet being so big and with the freedom of speech that everyone has, these things are inevitable. That is why I don�t venture out as much as I want to in the net because of the negative things that I read. In regards to what is being said that this board/site is just for relatives only, I think they are mistaken. The board is for all Tagudinians who would want to participate in the discussion related to our town. Everyone is welcomed here whether they are relatives of Seaside Park or anyone's relatives, from the town or from the barrios, alumni of SAS or alumni of TGCHS or from any other school in Tagudin. Well,I guess it's my turn to share my story. My name is Evangeline which means the "one who brings good news and good blessings" I was born on Oct.18.My Mom and Dad was expecting their first born to be a baby boy.There was no Ultrasound yet at that time to tell the sex of the baby. To their surprise came a baby girl.They were not prepared for a name of a baby girl.Using their resources and thru the recommendation of a priest,they look in the catholic calendar.It was the feast of St Luke,the Evangelist,so they named me Evangeline.I was just recently that I learned that St.Luke was a physician who is the Patron Saint of Health care workers. Here I am......I became a nurse.....

- Hey guys we did great. Here are some of the names that are waiting to be listed. The ones we are not sure about: Dolores (?), Mario (? Section 2), Victorina (?), Diomedes (?) and Romeo(?) Manzo. Jojo is not sure about his name. One of the question mark is Jesus but I believe his last name is Cortes but not sure if it with the z or s. Pls. correct me if I am wrong. I knew you were going to do well since you were one of the brightest in our class section. Every now and then I think of our classmates. Remember when we had a classroom contest and we were going to change the color of the floor of our classroom so it would look nice in third year high? What a joke that was but I had a lot of fun and have lots of good memories from that. It was almost funny because it turned out we made the floor uglier. If Japanese savor raw fish, Ilocos devour 'ata-ata'

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union�The Ilocanos have always been vegetarians. Whatever edible vegetation is found in and out of their backyards is turned into food.

Take the lowly saluyot, for instance. Before it was widely introduced to Filipinos as an edible dinengdeng ingredient, people considered it a backyard weed. It grew relentlessly in every corner of an Ilocano backyard.

Ilocanos also relish raw food. If the Japanese and the Visayans savor raw fish, Ilocanos devour ata-ata, with an urge akin to biological instinct.

�Yang sushi-sushi at sashimi-sashimi, na yan wala yan sa ata-ata[Sushi and sashimi are nothing compared to ata-ata],� said a devoted ata-ata eater in San Fernando City as he dared, �Kumain nga sila ng ata-ata kung kaya nila [Let them eat ata-ata if they can].�

But what is ata-ata?

It is a recipe originally for the macho Ilocano, comprising a mixture of raw beef and liver, onions, leeks, salt, chili pepper and the special papait, a greenish bitter fluid contained in cows� small intestines.

Other regions in the country mistake the pinapaitan for beef and entrails cooked in cow�s bile.

Staunch ata-ata eaters consider it almost a sacrilege when one uses cow�s bile to make it bitter. Purists among these eaters use the small intestines with bits of undigested grass.

First-timers always find ata-ata unsanitary. Aside from the quickly heated papait, eating raw beef and raw cow liver is frowned upon by most health buffs. But Ilocanos insist it always perks up one�s adrenalin particularly when one is suffering from a hangover from last night�s drinking spree.

Ata-ata is best eaten at breakfast. Eating it at nighttime is taboo.

A day in the life of an ata-ata eater starts at 4:00 a.m. as he goes straight to the slaughterhouse and orders as much as a kilo for one meal alone.

A kilo in San Fernando City costs P150 and the earlier this is bought the better, as the freshly slaughtered cow is best.

Then you ask for the pinapaitan. It is placed in the small intestines, which are tightly knotted at the end to prevent it from seeping.

The devout eater gets as many as three to four pouches of pinapaitan. Often, a latecomer has to make do with a small pouch containing a mixture of bile and water or pes-pes, juice extracted from undigested grass in the cow�s stomach.

Straight from this purchase, the eater washes the meat thoroughly and slices it as thinly as possible, across its grain. Over a small pot, he empties the contents of the small intestines and heats these very quickly.

When the liquid boils, he removes the pot immediately from the fire.

He slices onion leaves or leaks, onions, puts in salt and mono-sodium glutamate and mixes the heated papait with the meat.

He adds crushed chili peppers to the reddish fresh meat and eats it with rice, using his hands.

  - Hi Pia, yes you are right about the wet and cold part for I remember even in the summer it can be cold and rainy. Germany is also where I first saw snow. I remember Reeperhahn in the St. Pauli District. It reminded me of those places in Amsterdam. I remember there was also a nice garden and a zoo but what I remember the most is the bahnhof since I spent lot of time around train stations when I was travelling around. There were also a lot of cheaper hostels around the train stations since I was poor and travelling on a very limited budget. I found Hamburg a convenient city for it was faster to go to Berlin through Hamburg if your are coming from Frankfurt/Cologne(Koln) area one of my favorite cities.   - I was fortunate enough to get a chance to stay in one of the small towns in the Rhein area for several months. It is a beautiful place and very clean and same goes with the whole Germany and Germans are very punctual. Everything is on time which could be a problem for first time visitors. Thank you for making me reminisce about my travels in Germany and thank you for your invite. Perhaps someday I'd be able to see Germany again.
