When we were kids, my sister and I had to wait for my parents and my grandmother to return from midnight Mass to open our presents. My grandfather would stay home with us to make sure we were safe and to keep up from sneaking out to see what we got. Gramps usually failed at the latter. He would "rest his eyes", as he put it. Sis and I usually knew what was hidden under all that beautiful wrapping paper long before the family returned. Those were the good old days. What I would give just to have one of those Christmas memories again.
