Subject: American Idol as a learning tool

Hello Colorado Cindyfolks

What is it that makes us sit up and notice some performances, while others blend into the rest? For those of you who are fans of American Idol you’ve probably noticed this years panel of judges stressing the importance of making a connection with, and moving your audience. It’s not mere technical talent that advances a contestant to the next round, because at this point in the competition everyone can sing...really well. And it's not about getting it “right.” To move an audience you have to be moved yourself. You have to take yourself on a journey.

Let’s compare Top Five in Cinderella to the finalists on Idol. Just like on American Idol, you come into your state pageant with all of your training, the hours and hours of rehearsal, and the one thing that really sets you apart: YOU. You see, as participants are eliminated, the competition gets increasingly intense and great technique alone isn’t enough, because at this level everyone should have that. You must find a way to connect with your talent presentation in a way that will move you emotionally, every time. Without that, there is little chance that you will be able to move your audience. If your talent presentation takes you on a journey of your own, it is next to impossible not to bring your audience and the judges along...and score as you never have before.

Over the past seven years I’ve been honored to be part of the learning process of many Cinderella girls and women on their way to Top Ten, Top Five, State and International overall titles. What I have found to be of most value is the work we do to uncover and enhance who they truly are and what inherently sets them apart, with tools that can help you connect emotionally and make you stand out, not only in your talent presentation, but in every facet of the pageant. And, most importantly, in your life.

State and International pageants are quickly approaching, which means the time is at hand to begin both finding out what it is about you that will make you stand out from the rest, and how you can make a connection with your talent presentation that will take you on a journey and move your audience. Let’s get started.
