- World Championships -- Sean, 15:48:40 01/06/08 Sun [5]
I am using this board to announce that WIDA will host its first World Open Irish Dance Championships in October 2009 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Qualification criteria for the event will be listed before the end of January on our website www.worldirishdance.com/ This event will be open to all dancers, groups and schools who complete the required criteria. It is an Open platform event but to ensure that a high standard is achieved we have to insist on a qualification standard which will be in operation from the Dusseldorf Open Feis at the end of this month (January)

What a disaster. Expensive, expensive and no atmosphere. What are we doing going to these things when we know that the decisions are made up already depending on the panels that are selected. I am sure there will be more than a few unhappy dancers and teachers after this one. Pontins was nasty but at least it was fun.

I have been told that this is an open feis as the rules have been changed to allow WIDA schools to take part. Is this case in other countries as I dance for a WIDA school and want to know if I can dance in feis in other countries when I travel on business. I am an adult dancer and I have been dancing for three years and now want to experience the dancing in other countries. Do I have to get special permission to dance at other An Comisiun feis.

Since this is board that lists all the smaller organisations I have decided to try my approach with this board first in the hope that the moderator does not take offence at this idea and remove the post - here goes.
Since the major orgs have banned their members from helping the smaller orgs I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would be interested in judging at events for the smaller orgs. You would have to have extensive dance experience and knowledge but you may not be interested in being part of a bigger picture or are in the middle of a dance break etc. We (WIDA) have a growing number of feiseanna and are finding it difficult to get fresh faces and I know our partner organisations are having the same problem. Anyone interested? Let me know.

"I got to B-2
I once took the chance,
To start Irish Dance,
And I asked my father for a large advance,
So he gave me cash,
I know it sounds quite rash,
We're now broke, but I got to B-2.
I bought new socks and shoes,
And a dress or two.
And my earings match my crown right down to the silk of blue,
And my kick pants shine,
From the gold laced twine,
We're now broke, but I got to B-2.
To go on airplanes far,
We had to sell the car,
Though without the cost of gas I bought things at the feis bazaar,
I got new Pat King CDs,
So it has to be...
We're flat broke, but I got to B-2.
To give my career a nudge,
My Dad tried to bribe the judge,
But the money wasn't right, so he got snagged by the cops... oh fudge.
Well he got the cuffs,
I know it sounds real rough...
He's in jail, but I got to B---2!!!!!

- Help save the Hill of Tara from development! -- Concerned Irish Dancer, 19:35:20 07/27/07 Fri [2]
Please sign the online petition to save grounds of Tara! Visit: http://www.petitiononline.com/Temair/petition.html . People from any country can sign!
Here's what the petition says:
"To: An Taoiseach, The Irish Prime Minister
I wish to protest the planned M3 motorway through the ancient grounds of Tara. As you are aware, expert archaeologists in Ireland and internationally have pointed out that Tara is not just constituted by the actual hill, but also by the surrounding landscape, which is extraordinarily rich in archaeological monuments. This is precisely the area the planned M3 will cut through, only 1 km from the hill itself.
You are also no doubt aware that the Tara landscape is recognised as a site of not only Irish, but world importance. In particular, it holds a significant place in European cultural heritage. I therefore believe that the Irish Government has a duty to act as the respectful custodian of Tara, and all other ancient Irish archaeological sites, and to protect them for posterity and for the appreciation of present and future citizens of not just Ireland, but of all the world.
I ask you to personally intervene in this issue, and to see to it that one of the alternative routes available for the M3 motorway is chosen instead. I ask you to ensure that Tara remains completely undisturbed and that it is treated with the respect due to both a national and international cultural treasure, "
Thank you for your help!

Have just been the All irelands and had a great time. there were dancers from Germany there as well as England, Scotland and different parts of Ireland. It was a great feis and i cant wait to see what happens next year as it was much bigger this year than last. Doyle Halpin seemed to be the most successful school although I did see Keogh and Ni Maohlin? in the results a lot. The English dancers were good and there was a good dancer from Germany there - Kimberley I think her name was in a red and white dress. she was second in her championship to Shauna Mc Carthy who is brilliant. I know it is not comission but we had a lot of fun and I won a few medals which was great. Cant wait for the after feis party.

Does anyone know anything of the history of any of the other organisations. I know that An Coimisiun and An Comhdhail have been around for a number of years but how long have the others been around and what makes them different from one another? I have heard there are other orgs apart from the ones named but I dont know any of their names or letter designations. How do you get in touch with these other bodies - do they have websites?

Good luck with the site, can I suggest you hide you email though, people can still contact you via the Contact Forum Admin link at the top of the page, joys of open email addies is spam spam and more spam. Plus have just noticed you are limited to 100 letters in Message Subject box any chance of increasing this - thanks
