Hi Everyone,

I have some good news and bad news for you.

As part of UN's new regs, all employees are expected to go on a mission at least once in their career. Nestor opted to apply in Haiti due to the proximity to home (3-4 hour flight from JFK). We prayed hard about this and we asked the Lord to give us the assurance that it was okay and that it was really part of His plan for him. Not only did Nestor receive an expeditious notification that he had been selected for the assignment, he is also going there as an Associate Contracts Officer for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH). This is renewable depending on the needs of the country. He will be leaving on the 11th of this month.

We know this is all happening so fast and believe you me, it hasn't been easy. In the 21 years that we've been married, Nestor and I have never been apart from each other except for the 5 days that I was away to accompany Dad and Mom to the Philippines last January. We've had a family meeting about this and the kids were not exactly thrilled but were amenable to the plan.

He will also be leaving behind the BLD Class of Marriage Encounter #23 (consisting of 31 couples, 1 priest, and 1 nun) whom we are "shepherding" and whom we have learned to love like our own family. We had a birthday/farewell party for Nestor last Sunday and it was rather emotional. The class gave him a gift cheque enough to purchase a one-way ticket to come home.

Nestor will be receiving a daily stipend on top of his salary here at the UN headquarters. This will really help us a lot with our finances. He will also be receiving a 75% reimbursement for the kids' college tuition.

Thank God for technology, Nestor will only be an email or a phone call away. He will also be coming home at least every 2 months and during the Holidays.

Please help us pray that all will be well with this unexpected change in our lives. We can only cling to God's promise that all things will work for good to those who love Him.

I apologize for the delay of the updates on the yearbook. I guess I was still hoping for more biodata and reunion pictures to arrive. Besides, my focus has shifted tremendously with the preparation for my honey's departure.

Thank you all and God bless,
Becbec
