Subject: Prepare for the Campaign Season!

Gentlemen,

I just wanted to remind everyone to start NOW getting your body in shape for the upcoming campaign season. Let's face it, we are not going to be doing any forced marches, but reenacting is pretty physical.

So, DON'T be a real casualty. I put an article on this site with some helpful information but let's outline a couple of quick tips to avoid problems in the field:

1.) Start drinking water now. Get use to drinking 1/2 to 1 gallon a day. It is very highly recommended to substitute a glass of H2O for that Coke or Beer you may drink, which actually cause dehydration!

2.) Start an exercise program. Take afternoon walks around the block, use a tread mill, jog, use a bike, or something to work your heart for about 30 min. 3 times a week. If you are really brave, take that walk with your CS jacket on...if you live in a good neighborhood of course ;-).

3.) Watch your diet. Cut back on the chow. Extra weight causes your heart to over work and your body to over heat. Being over weight is also the leading cause of heart attack, high blood pressure and diabetes. So trim the fat...so to speak. The best way to do that is eat less and exercise more. And yes the low carb thing works...just stick with health meats for protein and good vegetables for the carbs.

Hey, I know this is strange talk for reenactors but its reality. I want us all to have a good time without anyone getting hurt. The best way to avoid that is for you to be prepared to hit the field.

Be ready for the heat and bugs too.

YOS,

Gen. Griffin
Your Nutritionist ;-)
