With More Than 850,000 Streams In One Day, Will Smith's 'Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)' Shatters AOL Music's Previous 'First Listen' Records
NEW YORK, May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Will Smith's eagerly-awaited new single "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)" was streamed more than 850,000 times by AOL members and Web music fans around the world during the first day (Tuesday, May 7) of its exclusive premiere on AOL Music's "First Listen," surpassing all previous "First Listen" first day's numbers. The record-breaking first single from the superstar's forthcoming Columbia Records album Born To Reign is also the theme for the upcoming Will Smith summer blockbuster "Men In Black II." Born To Reign will be in stores from Columbia Records on Tuesday, June 25.
Will Smith's Born To Reign and the "Men In Black II" film are two of the most hotly anticipated events of 2002. Big Willie Style, Smith's 1997 debut solo album on Columbia Records, has been certified 9x platinum, having spent 96 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 album chart, with 72 of those weeks in the Top 40. Smith's debut generated several enormous hits including "Just The Two of Us," "Men In Black," "Miami," and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It," which became the #1 Pop and Rap single in the U.S. Tracks from Big Willie Style earned Smith Best Rap Solo Performance Grammys two years running: "Men In Black" (1997) and "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It" (1998). His 1999 follow-up Willennium achieved multi-platinum status while his performance of the title track on the first "Men In Black" soundtrack album helped that record reach triple platinum.
AOL Music's "First Listen" is a popular new feature that gives AOL members and Web music fans the chance to hear new singles on demand, in their entirety before they can be heard anywhere else. Will Smith's "Black Suits Comin' (Nod Ya Head)" was available at AOL Keyword: First Listen on AOL and AOL High Speed Broadband services; on AOL's Web Properties including Netscape, AIM Today, and CompuServe; as well as AOL's international services including AOL in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Argentina, Australia and Canada.
