I bought my 10 year old mammoth in almost the same way, 6 years ago. I started with getting him used to being brushed at his hind legs, and gradually brushing his hooves then gradually picking-up his hind hooves and brushing the bottoms. About one year of 'gradually'. Be patient and keep at it.

I imagine that you still have a problem? I am new to "finding" this message board. The donkey has a spinal subluxation & is in pain. He needs chiropractic correction to enjoy painfree movement.
