Subject: age for weaning

IS 2 AND 3 MONTHS ACCEPTABLE AGES FOR WEANING DONKEYS IF THEY ARE EATING GOOD? I'M GETTING MY FIRST DONKEY AS IS FRIEND AND WE'RE NOT SURE OF WEANING. PLEASE ADVISE!

NO!!! That is absolutely too young. It does not just depend on if they are eating good, they need the extra time with their mother to build confidence and learn to be a donkey. I am always getting calls from people who bought a baby donkey weaned before 4 months and the baby is climbing on them, biting, etc. They need to stay with mother for at least 5 months and I feel 6 is better. They also need another donkey to play with. Mine are raised with goats and small dogs, but play with each other. If the breeder won't keep the baby the extra time, find another breeder.
