Subject: A lot colostomys are temporary these days
In reply to: GM 's message, "I remember her saying that too" on 11:56:34 09/04/08 Thu

Only about 15% of colostomys are permanent these days. Medical advances have come a long way. It also kind of depends on the location of the deseased colon and how far it has spread.

The colostomy can give the colon time to heal and then the sections can possibly be joined together at a later date.

I had a relative undergo a colostomy and then I guess it was about 12 weeks later they did another surgery and attatched the ends of her colon. She sure did have a lot of medical complications though and she still has problems.
