I'm so glad I left this show back in early 2002, I think it was. I can't imagine having to stomach some of the stuff described here in the years since. I'm not sad for myself anymore, but I feel very bad for you all that stuck with it.

My niece is now 11 (she was only a year old when I first met you guys!) and has asked me about watching my Luke and Laura tapes. I told her when she's a little older, we'll watch (I don't want to have to explain the complexities of that rape story to someone her age, even though she probably knows as much about sex as I do, thanks to movies, pop culture, and friends at school, LOL). I look forward to it because 30 years have not dimmed the power of those early storylines, and I know I will enjoy them almost anew as my niece sees it for the first time.

I don't see those 1980 characters as connected to the characters of today at all, except that the same actors nominally play the roles. The creative intent, aesthetic, and controlling storytelling philosophy back then was totally different. Except for a few "modern" era scenes that made it totally on the chemistry between Geary and Francis (e.g., surrounding Lucky's death), I would be very happy to forget that Luke and Laura ever returned to GH after leaving in 1983. And, to my surprise, 6+ years of being away from it has almost allowed me to do that.
